Curated Mechanical Folk Art

I am a lifelong collector of old and interesting curiosities, with a deep appreciation for traditional folk art, mechanical objects, and pieces that honour both craftsmanship and charm.

The metal balance Models presented here are produced in small numbers within a traditional blacksmith’s workshop. Each Model is individually cut, formed, assembled, and carefully hand-painted using time-honoured methods.

I am fortunate to source these works directly from the workshop itself — supporting a small-scale craft practice where quality, character, and authenticity take precedence over mass production.

No two Models are ever identical.

Each one is painted by hand by an artist renowned for painting traditional puppets, bringing depth of expression and heritage artistry to every piece. Subtle variations in brushwork, colour, and finish are the natural result of this process — quiet signatures of individuality that make each Model distinct.

Rooted in the historic tradition of balancing Models and pendulum toys, every piece is a study in equilibrium. Carefully weighted and precisely engineered, they appear to defy gravity — hovering in delicate balance with effortless poise.

Inspired by mystical folklore and traditional decorative arts, these Models carry echoes of travelling curiosity shows and Victorian parlours, where science, storytelling, and spectacle existed side by side. They are at once mechanical objects and mystical folklore Models — grounded in physics, yet rich in character and imagination.

Today, they remain timeless.
