Driftwood Journey-Lone Rower Gift-Handmade Moving Metal Sculpture

Driftwood Journey is a handmade metal lone rower in a wooden boat, sat in his broad-brimmed hat, pulling steadily on his oars. Balanced on a hidden counterweight, the boat rocks gently from side to side at the lightest touch, and as it moves the rower sways with it, his arms working the oars back and forth in a slow, measured rhythm before settling back to rest.

Each piece is cut, shaped, assembled and hand-painted in a traditional blacksmith's workshop, in the spirit of the painted tinplate balancing toys of the Victorian and Edwardian nursery. Made in small batches, so no two are exactly the same, the little differences in the brushwork are the mark of proper handmade work.

A lovely gift for lake and river rowers, wild swimmers, coastal fishermen, canoeists, or anyone drawn to quiet time out on the water.
