Galloping Girl is a handmade metal lady riding side-saddle, dressed in a smart dark habit, white blouse and top hat with a scarf trailing behind, her bay horse stretched out at the gallop. Balanced on a hidden counterweight, the pair rock in a smooth, steady rhythm at the lightest touch. As they move, the horse's head and tail rise and fall while the rider shifts gently in the saddle, exactly like the cadence of a real gallop, before settling back to rest.

Each piece is cut, shaped, assembled and hand-painted in a traditional blacksmith's workshop, in the spirit of the painted tinplate balancing toys of the Victorian and Edwardian nursery. Made in small batches, so no two are exactly the same, the little differences in the brushwork are the mark of proper handmade work.
