A Gift in Motion-Christmas Santa Gift-Handmade Moving Metal Sculpture

A Gift in Motion is a handmade metal Father Christmas caught mid-round, present in one hand, sack ready beside him. Balanced on a hidden counterweight, he rocks gently from side to side at the lightest touch, his head nodding and his arms rising and falling as if he's carefully placing the present into his sack, before settling back to rest.

Each piece is cut, shaped, assembled and hand-painted in a traditional blacksmith's workshop, in the spirit of the painted tinplate Christmas toys of the Victorian and Edwardian nursery. Made in small batches, so no two are exactly the same, the little differences in the brushwork are the mark of proper handmade work.

The kind of Christmas decoration that gets its own spot on the mantelpiece, sideboard or hall table, then packed carefully away and brought out again year after year. A wonderful gift from grandparents, parents, godparents or friends, and the sort of thing that becomes part of the family Christmas long after the wrapping paper's gone in the recycling. A lovely alternative to the usual baubles and tinsel, and a proper conversation piece when guests come round for mince pies.
