Hobby Horse Blue Boy is inspired by the traditional nursery rhyme “Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross.” Perched proudly upon his toy steed, the young rider captures the timeless charm of childhood imagination and old English folklore.

Often known as a hobby horse, this classic figure evokes the simple joy of pretend play and storybook adventure. The gentle rocking motion echoes the rhythm of the rhyme itself — steady, playful and full of character.

Handcrafted from metal in a traditional blacksmith’s workshop, each balance model is individually cut, formed, assembled and carefully hand-painted. The precisely weighted pendulum base allows horse and rider to rock smoothly from side to side; as the piece moves, the boy’s arms, legs and head respond in lively rhythm, while the horse’s head nods in time, suggesting the spirited bounce of a gallop. The motion creates a soft, ticking cadence — reminiscent of a clock or nursery beat — before gradually settling back into equilibrium, honouring the historic craft of mechanical balancing toys.

Produced in small batches, every model carries subtle variations in finish and brushwork — natural marks of true handcraft that make each piece quietly unique and collectable.
